Continuing with my travel experiences:
In Uganda we went to Lake Bunyonyi.  It is a beautiful lake with tons of islands in the middle.  We camped on one of them at a beautiful resort surrounded by hundreds of brightly colored birds, flowers and hand dug out canoes.  We then moved on to Kampala.  We went out for a night of dancing at the National Theater’s open-mic hip-hop night. I was nice to be in a big city, with its fast internet...

I am back home in Moshi!
Honesty is back at home doing well.  Joelle, Honesty and I went on Thursday morning and got him admitted to the hospital.  I the doctor was not very detailed in his anticipated outcome from surgery, “If God wills it to happen then it will work” was said several times.  Not exactly what I wanted to hear from his surgeon.  The surgeon was being followed by two medical students from the UK, so I got...

Good news, I went with Honesty today to Machame Hospital. He is now admitted to the surgery ward. He will have surgery at 1pm tomorrow and I will be in the operating room. I get to observe like the medical students! I will update again when I know a bit more. At hospitals here, there is no food service so I will be his family in the sense that I will be cooking and bringing food to him for the...

Busy being a Local
Thank you so much for your great comments I love reading them, I know there has been some problem with them but I think it is fixed now.  Life is speeding by here. I rarely get to the internet nowadays.  Tourist season is at its peak which means there are tourists everywhere and the people that live here are pushier because this is the season where they earn their money for the rest of the year. ...

Finally a Family Travels Update
My sister, father and brother-in-law Matt got to Moshi and back home safe.  Everything went well with their visit, no major travel, cultural or immigration mishaps. Although Mt. Kilimanjaro decided to hide behind clouds almost every time they were in Moshi, which is a shame because it is such a beautiful backdrop to my favorite places in Moshi. It was great having them here, and to show off what I...

Safari
I just talked to the man that I arranged our safari with and he said two things: one the migration crossed the river on the 14th, two days ago which is a major event. Also 30s lion took down a zebra in front of the dining tent on June 8th at the camp we stayed at in the Serengeti. The clients and guides locked themselves in the car and watched the whole thing. They were then driven to their...

Quick update
Joelle and I went with Honest, the man with the dislocated elbow today.  We met him at the largest hospital in Moshi, KCMC.  This hospital is like the other in that it is super busy, hard to navigate and does not rely on silly ideas like taking patients in order.  So Joelle and I used our white skin to get him seen.  We were told that we would need to come back on tue for the orthopedic clinic.  ...

Work Work Work and a little bit of fun!
Last week I volunteered with a group of 26 people from Canada.  The group consisted of many doctors from different specialties, nurses, medical students and other logistical people.  They came to work with a local NGO, Tunaweza (means “We Can” in Swahili). The health caravan provided absolutely free health care and medication to about 3500 people during the two weeks it lasted in the Moshi and...

This last Sunday I was invited to Baba Kashdae village of Mihoma.  He is the local artist that I have been working with for the last month developing my previously non existent artist skills.  He is a wonderful man in his 50’s that splits his time between Moshi and Mihoma.  The paintings in the picture below are just some of his work.  He paints amazing picture of animals even though he has never...

Lushuto and Work
That last entry was part of my homework for my lessons.  I am starting to be able to have conversations, slowly.  I now understand and have memorized most of the structure of the language and how verbs fit in to the rest of the words.    My students are now on break until the beginning of May.  So I have been spending Monday Tuesdays and Wednesdays networking trying to find a project to work with...
